Wandering Destination: Anand sagar, Shegaon

Anand sagar, Shegaon

Entrance gate at Anand Sagar

Shegaon is a small town located in Maharashtra on central rail line from Mumbai to Nagpur. It is sacred place for the people who believed in the powers of Gajanan Maharaj, one of the saints from modern era. Apart from his Samadhi, Shegaon hosts few interesting places to visit; foremost among them is Anand Sagar. Anand Sagar is an artificial garden with a large lake centered in it. The main attraction here is the imitation of Vivekanand smarak situated at the center of the man-made lake. It congregates aquarium, play grounds, wide spread lawns, and cafeterias. There is also a colossal open air theater where beautiful fountain shows are arranged in the evening.

Accommodation

This place is a good weekend trip and can be completed in 2 days comfortably (If you live in Maharashtra). A proper mixture of family trip and pilgrimage. Bhakt-niwas, lodges for pilgrims constructed by trust are of all kinds: economic to  luxurious.

How to reach:

Shegaon is well connected by train from Mumbai, Nagpur and Kolkatta.  It is located on NH-6 and thus  well connected with major Mahrashtrian cities by road as well. From railway station to temple to Anand Sagar free bus service is available.

Photographs:

I visited this place long back in 2005 during one workshop I attended at Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering. Here are few photographs I clicked with my Sony 3.2 mega pixel camera. Video recording was then not allowed. There is small entry fee and camera fee is levied separately

Well maintained gardens lush green lawns

Cafeterias
