Why Pak fighting terrorism halfheartedly?

Sponsored terrorism is now a characteristics of the foreign policy and army of Pakistan. Sponsorship has started backfiring severely against themselves, its intensity is increasing day by day or should I say blast by blast. Recent Peshawar massacre followed by Talibani threat to further attack children is not going to force the Pakistani leadership to change the course of action in fighting terrorism positively. However there are certain strong reasons Pakistan do not want to do which us right, do not want to full fill the demands of humanity.

1. Funding from US and other nations:

If Pakistan succeeds in curbing the terrorism totally, it will stop incoming funding. Funding helps Pakistan to buy weapons and aid its military to fight proxy war against India.

2. Friendship with US and China:

When terrorism vanishes from Pak soil, US will have no more interest in maintaining strong relations with Pakistan. Pakistan, as it doesn't have any vital resources or strategical geographical positions, it wont be logical for US to continue ties with Pakistan. China considers India as its one the greatest enemy. Helping Pakistan is the only solution to suppress India's growth indirectly. China is following US way and gaining power over south Asia.

3. Check on India:

Keeping terrorism alive comes with an indirect advantage for Pakistan. It keeps Indian government to go slow on Pakistan. India is unable to take harsh actions as US is still with Pakistan. India don't want to slow down the progress of friendship building measures with US. Crab mentality of Pakistan is proving a strategic asset.

4. Involvement of Pak army:

Pak army is deeply involved in supporting the activities of several terrorist organisations. Army helps terrorists to cross the border and supplies arms, food, shelter etc. Removing soft corner  and changing the mindset of some is herculean task.

5. US Hypocrisy:

US is clearly Hippocratic when comes the question of supporting or opposing a nation. How useful that country is for US is the key to US decision. It depends on presence of oil, its geographical position, political status of that country. US recently have openly stated that it cannot end the relationship with Pakistan even though its the source of terrorist activities. Hippocratic policy of US has backfired in cases of Afganistan, Iraq, Vietnam.  So question is, if 9/11 fails to change US mind, who will ?

These reasons are strong enough to say that Pak will never ever be successful in irradiating the terrorism from its soil. Unless and until somebody creates anti-terrorist god ! 11th Vishnu Avatar ?

  1. Hi Paresh, an interesting post and very interesting pointers about sponsored terrorism. there is also a theory that most activities are even funded by China. Just a theory of course, but you never know how much of that also can be true.. A thought provoking post mate :)

  2. Nicely put Paresh. I agree with all the points. And I like your signature at the end too, which you have disabled the function to copy.... hahahahaha... :)

  3. Your First Reason is false. Even if pakistan doesnt eradicate terrorism, funds will come to pakistan because funds are not only defence and security enhancing but also developmental i.e. for socio economic too from sources like multilateral agencies. The problem is this: Pakistan diverting these developmental funds for terrorism.. No one can coerce them to stop it. India can only protest, USA can reprimand it but it depends on the men at the helm in Pakistan to stop the diversion.

  4. Second Point: USA will always have interest in pakistan. Pakistan has airbases from where US fighter planes and drones operate. Drone strikes in the tribal districts (FATA) are done by USA. Since pakistan has land boundary with iran USA would still maintain bases in pakistan to keep a tab on Iran to help its gulf allies in case of any skirmishes. Moreover USA needs pakistan because the main supply routes to its military in Afghanistan runs through Pakistan. Pakistan has a larger say in policies when it comes to afghanistan because its military has a paternal relation with Afghan taliban. USA will always have relations with pakistan because they have been together right from cold war era and USA would never sever ties with Pak since USA would not want Pak's nuke capacity falling into the hands of terrorists and whole south asia suffering as a result. So USA will never leave pakistan... but the ties may see ups and downs but not complete withdrawal. that would be stupid....

  5. Pakistan has no strategic, geographical locations..... thats ridiculous. The karakoram highway china is building, the drone bases USA is running, the Gwadar port in the arabian sea run by china, Khyber pass are all strategic assets for pakistan. So your observation is utterly wrong... Pakistan has rich mining locations which remains unexplored.... they possess natural resources too.

  6. For gods sake.. China is not indias enemy. Despite having unresolved borders we both have never had any exchange of fire since an agreement was signed. China has investments in india and is planning in a big way for further investments in india. did nt you read about bullet trains with chinese cooperation, industrial parks in gujarath etc...and delhi to chennai train route ? Chinese have a huge pile of money. They want a place which is safe , stable and secure to invest their money in for smart returns. And india is the most stable and exciting country in the world right now... If chinese invest in india and then try to destabiilse india by joining hands with pakistan, chinese are digging their own grave......... returns are needed to be ploughed back into china to keep their population away from questioning the one party regime and their curbs on freedom.

  7. Chinese themselves are fed up with Pakistan. Because Chinese investmetns in pakistan are not being guarded by pak state. terror attacks , abductions of chinese engineers and workers, sabotage etc are prevalent in pakistan by terror groups against investmetns by china . they are clearly upset.

Havent you heard or read anything about The Xinjiang problem, uighur minority etc in china. China is facing islamic terrorism on the western flanks of its borders in the form of ETIM or east turkestan islamic movement. they are causing threats to the chinese plans of laying pipelines from central asia to china....... The ETIM has among its ranks mujahideens who are from pakistan.. and has other leaders who find sanctuary in pakistan......... Chinese are upset with it.

  8. India and china donot see eye to eye on many issues. but both know that they have enough space to co exist in asia as well as the world. Yes China is friendly with Pakistan...........so what .......... we are friendly with vietnam , philippines, ASEAN etc. its all about diplomacy............ and not about sabotage my dear friend..............

So please stop creating boogies that China is indias enemy..... We have already fought a useless war so lets stop it and cooperate with each other. Im not advocating for a bear hug with china but verify china and then shake hands with it. approach....

  9. Your third point is partly correct. But the point that india doesnt want to loose us support is untrue. If india decides to take down dawood ibrahim it can do it now........ to attack pak cities by raw agents it is possible.......... but it will all escalate the crisis ...... It takes political will to decide on such things...... and not a nod from usa..... For now what the gov did is well and good... because it was tit for tat from india for firing from across the border by pakistan army.......... that was good.

  10. YOU have mentioned pak army but i am surprised since you never once in your post mentioned about KASHMIR. as long as kashmir issue is alive army will not loose its supremacy in pakistan. There wont be any solutions to kashmir since army will throw spanner into the works. kashmir is a rallying point for all pakistanis. if kashimr issue is solved army will loose its legitimacy when its comes huge funds being allotted them. So pak army will always keep kashmir issue alive.... and try to bleed india to death by a thousand cuts............

  11. The USA point ie the last point too is correct......but partly correct. USA's exceptionalism is know.... But usa too has come out strongly against pak recently....... many instances. hafiz syed was announced a fugitive by usa and prize on his head was offered, bail to lakhvi was condemned. and usa itself is carrying out drone attacks on FATA terrorists.... so usa too is condemning terror asylum policy by pak. Blaming usa for pak's policy of supporting terrorism is incorrect. yes usa should stop funding and all.....but even if usa stops funding pak will receive funds from saudi and other clandestine sources.........
surprised to see the word "TALIBAN" occuring just once in your post. THE REAL PROBLEM FACED BY PAKISTANI STATE IS THIS.... THEY ARE DIFFERENTIATING TALIBAN INTO GOOD AND BAD TALIBAN. GOOD ARE THE ONES WHO ARE AGAINST INDIA NAMELY LeT, JuD, LeJ and the likes. The BAD TALIBAN are the ones in the FATA who wants to overthrow pak state and impose sharia law.

    ReplyDelete
  12. THE GREATEST IRONY OF PAK STATE is That THEY ARE BOMBING THE TTP or BAD TALIBAN in Pakistan and ENCOURAGING THE GROWTH OF AFGHAN TALIBAN IN AFGHANISTAN SO THAT AFTER THE EXIT OF USA IN 2015 PAK HAS A HUGE SAY IN MATTERS WHEN IT COMES TO AFGHANISTAN...... THEY WILL NEVER GIVE IT UP......

  13. Your post contains mostly inaccurate facts and immature observations. there are many stakeholders involved and the issue is deep. if you intend to write any post of this nature please try to give mature, rounded picture and views hereafter. Or better donot write it until you have a rounded post....... these are just suggestions my friend, the final call is upon you.

I am not threatening you. just recommending you to keep your eyes and ears open when you write about these complex things such as terrorism. writing a poetry or an imaginary story about terrorism is easy ......... but to write a post explaining reasons is difficult because it involves strategic thinking...............as well. so try to bear this in mind when you write next real post on any current issue...

I have got long miles to travel to become an expert.
